The Hertfordshire Football Association is saddened by the news that John Wayman, Honorary Vice President of the Watford Sunday Football League, passed away on the 11th March 2010 at the age of 91. John played for three clubs; Glenn Sports FC, Callowland FC and Knutsford FC, for whom he played at Vicarage Road Stadium winning the Watford Medal Competition. John then moved into management with Oxhey FC.
John was an active referee, regularly officiating over 100 youth games a season as well as taking charge of Arsenal Ladies on several occasions. John’s love of refereeing meant that he continued until the age of 86. As well as playing, managing and officiating, John was an active Football Administrator, holding the office of Chairman of the South-West Hertfordshire Youth Football Association before its amalgamation with the area’s adult FA. John’s sterling work in grassroots football led to him being awarded the FA’s 50 year service medal.
Our thoughts and sympathies are with John’s family and friends to whom we send our sincere condolences.
The funeral arrangements are as follows;
• The funeral will take place at Monday 29th March at West Herts crematorium at 2.00p.m.
• The wake will take place at the Noke Hotel, Chiswell Green.
