The FA Charter Standard Clubs programme, supported by the FA Community Partner McDonald's, was launched in February 2001 and is the core component of The FA Football Development programme.
The Charter’s Standard Scheme is a best practice guide that sets standards of coaching, administration and child protection for clubs and schools working with young people. As a benchmark for quality, it will improve the playing experience for all.
The project is aimed at all clubs outside the Football League and Premier League to help players, children and parents find a club in their local area that meets FA standards. In addition schools can acquire status as a sign of excellence in delivering football to their pupils.
Comets achieved this standard in 2005 and was awarded the certificate shown to the left, in a ceremony at Watford Football Club in 2006.
