The Comets Summer Tournament

For some years now Comets Sports Club has hosted a summer tournament. This has a six-a-side format and is generally held on the third weekend in June. It has developed over the years with new age groups and categories being added.

It is now, undoubtedly, one of the largest summer tournaments in the area. It has grown to its current size only because of its popularity. Those competing tell us it's popular because it is well organised.

Generally events run on time and all the facilities provided are not only appreciated but are affordable. The burgers, in particular, are most enjoyable; we are told, though whether this is due purely to the flavour and succulence or to the panache with which they are served one has to guess.

What is clear is that the event is successful for one reason only; the hard work of all the volunteers involved. Without the people marshalling car parking, on the gates selling programs, running the drinks and food stalls, fixing up goals, carrying refreshments to the referees, keeping the score sheets and all the rest that needs to be done over the course of a busy weekend the tournament would be far less successful and, indeed, might not run at all.
